Stone Care Guide

Sealing:

All Granite is sealed prior to installation with a “non-toxic” solvent based penetrating sealer. At the time of installation, we will apply another sealer coat for good measure. We recommend that the customer have the stone sealed annually, though most of the sealers available are 3-5 year sealers. Cherry Marble Group does offer the same sealer used at installation for sell to the public.

Please carefully read the label describing application if you are applying your sealer. Different sealers have different life expectancies, so please follow instructions on label precisely.  Should you have any questions regarding your sealer and/or application process, we recommend that you contact the manufacturer.

Daily Maintenance:

We recommend that you clean your countertops with warm water mixed with a few drops of mild dishwashing detergent, preferably antibacterial. Rinse the countertops thoroughly with clean water, followed by drying your countertops with a soft dry clean cloth. Too much detergent can leave streaks or a film. Do not use any products that contain lemon, vinegar, acids of any level, or abrasives. In the event of a spill, we recommend blotting the chemical with a paper towel instead of wiping, as wiping the spill will only spread the spilled chemical. If the spill causes a stain, a “poultice” , or dressing may be needed in order to eliminate the stain.

If you have questions or concerns regarding a stain, you can contact the Marble Institute Of America for a full brochure, or you can visit their website for more care and cleaning information.

Stone Do’s and Don’ts

  • Do clean stone surfaces with a small amount of mild detergent diluted in water
  • Do rinse and dry stone surfaces after washing
  • Do blot spills immediately
  • Do use trivets or mats under ceramic objects that can cause scratching
  • Don’t use vinegar, lemon juice, or acidic chemicals on stone
  • Don’t use abrasive cleaners such as dry cleaners or soft cleaners
  • Don’t stand on stone countertops: areas around sinks, cook tops, seams and inside corners are especially fragile
  • Don’t cut on stone countertops, use a cutting board
  • Don’t place hot pans or pots directly on stone countertops, as this may counteract the sealer and/or penetrating glues
